Description

YSTUDIO joins hands with renowned Japanese glass master Mr. Naoya Arakawa to present the Classic Renaissance – Glass Paperweight (Dew Glow). Inspired by the purity of morning dew, each piece captures a fleeting moment of nature — organically shaped, fluid, and luminous. More than just a paperweight, it’s a tranquil landscape for your desk.

Naoya Arakawa – Japanese Glass Artisan

Mr. Naoya Arakawa is a revered figure in the world of Japanese glass art, with over four decades of dedication to the craft. He has inherited the traditional glassblowing techniques and entrepreneurial spirit passed down from the Meiji and Taisho eras, establishing himself as a master in the field. Renowned for his use of the ancient chūbuki ( 宙吹き-free-blowing) technique, Arakawa reveals the poetic unpredictability of glass through the organic, spontaneous formation of air bubbles—celebrating the beauty of chance inherent in the material.

Master of Traditional Free-Blown Glass Technique – 宙吹き Chūbuki

Mr. Naoya Arakawa preserves the time-honored Japanese glassblowing technique known as Chūbuki (宙吹き free-blowing), a method passed down through generations. Without the use of molds, molten glass, heated to 1300°C, is shaped solely by the artisan's breath and hands, guided by instinct and experience. This deep material understanding gives rise to glassware with gently flowing lines and a warm, organic presence.

Bubble Artistry – Airstream Forming Technique

Mr.Arakawa’s mastery in channeling air through molten glass has given rise to what he calls the Airstream Forming Technique. Each bubble, varying in size, direction, and rhythm, is shaped through the artisan’s intentional gestures, settling where air, light, and raw material converge in perfect harmony. For Mr.Arakawa, bubbles are not flaws, but vessels that hold memory and light. Refracted through the glass, even the simplest moments are gently preserved.
